Marching band is a sport!, people are wrong to say it isn't. Marching band takes a lot of focus, dedication, and work. We have practice everyday after school for three hours, Fridays are football game days, though we don't even get home until 11 o'clock. Saturdays are extremely important when it comes to performing, because it's competition day! We work our butt's off to get the first place trophy's in each category of competition. They judge marching technique, musicality, color guard, percussion, general effect, and finally drum major. If you're good enough you also get a grand champion trophy.
POC, the scariest acronym Ive ever seen in my whole entire life. Parade of Champions is hosted by James Madison University's Marching Royal Dukes. The biggest marching competition in the area. Schools from every district and ever class size all across Virginia and its bordering states. Each band in the class fighting for the same trophy.
Last year, Broadway High School's Marching Regiment performed Mirror Images, a show which included musical pieces from three different marching shows and with drill by the school's band director. Broadway place 2nd out of 14 bands!, we will be working for first this year.
Last year was my very first year, it was amazing. We placed first in almost all of the competitions that we went to. We were actually a single A class band, but we competed in class 2 A usually for harder competition and because we knew could do it!
Marching band has been nothing but a blessing for me. It has taught me so much, and has improved my tone a lot on trumpet. I now have a band family, Morgan who is my section leader and Regan and Cassie are some of the best-est friends I could ever ask for. Especially my flute friend Kaytie, she kind of hated me in the beginning because of my mild to severe annoyance, but she began to get to know me and we instantly became the best of friends.
I thank god everyday for being able to have such amazing people in my life, and we all speak for each other when it comes to how much we love band.
-"Broadway High School, you may now take the field in competition"-
