Music! There are different kinds of music for different kinds of ensembles to perform.
There is many different types of marching band shows. (I prefer contemporary marching shows, you know, the ones without music from the radio. When i become a band director, contemporary music will be a must for my marching band.) There are also different types of music like, festive or holiday, performance and competition, or even pep tunes. In this blog i will be discussing the multiple types of music.
Festive or Holiday music! Festive and holiday music is mainly chosen for times around Christmas, Hanukkah, etc, is a great way to spread holiday cheer!, but there are also music pieces for veterans day, memorial day, 4th of July, etc. Music is a great way to capture emotion and spread that emotion to the audience.
Performance and Competition! Many many choices in this category of music! Some of my favorite pieces, like Abram's Pursuit, by: David R. Holsinger, and Ludlow, by: Roland Barrett, and one of my favorite 4th of july pieces that is also considered a competition piece is At Dawn They Slept, by: Jay Bocook. Competition season is a fun part of the band experience and having a good performance piece makes it even more fun.
Music is on a grading scale, very easy to very difficult. In my band class we play more grade 4 and 5 and even 6!
Music has changed my life for the better and I hope you find it just as amazing! Thank you for reading my blog post on music! Feel free to comment!
